ARTIST STATEMENT

My paintings capture the dynamic beauty and delicate balance of underwater seagrass ecosystems. Through layers of expressive brushwork and vibrant colors, I aim to transport the viewer beneath the waves, immersing them in the ever-shifting patterns and textures of this vital marine habitat.As a passionate advocate for seagrass conservation, my artwork is deeply inspired by the lifecycles and ecological importance of these submerged meadows. Each painting reflects the graceful movement of swaying seagrasses, the interplay of light and shadow, and the intricate communities of organisms that call this watery world home. By translating the essence of these marine habitats into abstract compositions, I hope to evoke a sense of wonder and deeper appreciation for the biodiversity that exists just below the surface. My paintings serve as visual meditations on the fragility and resilience of these underwater ecosystems, inviting the viewer to contemplate their own connection to the natural world.


BIO

Nedret Andre holds an MFA from Maine College of Art and integrates ecological themes into her paintings. Since 2015 Nedret's solo exhibitions have featured collaborations with her ecologist’s friends where she invites different marine biologists to present the seagrass work they do in the field. Nedret provides a platform for seagrass awareness and action. Her work has been featured in public and private art collections including, JP Morgan, Beth Isreal Medical Center, and Lassel Village. Nedret’s paintings have also been reviewed in Art New England and ArtScope Magazine. Several of her paintings are also featured in Out of the Blue, a UN Environmental Program focused on Seagrass. She received a Chashama Grant for Environmental Work in 2017 and a Fort Point Artist Community, Grant for Protecting our Seagrass Habitat, for a community based paper installation project.
