About me
Fred is currently President of Massachusetts Climate Action Network, and recent Past President of JCAN. Fred is a leading authority on rapidly transitioning communities to a low-carbon future. He has been a leader in energy efficiency and climate action for over 40 years.
His professional career in energy was mostly as a leader in lighting, but he began in residential retrofitting auditing, then solar. Starting in the 1980s, he drove adoption of ever-more-efficient lighting, including shepherding the energy field through the tumultuous and transformative 10-year LED revolution.
In recent years, Fred is spearheading larger and larger community-level decarbonization efforts. As Chair of Medfield Energy Committee 2019-2022, he oversaw municipal renewable and efficiency projects and explored net-zero redevelopment; and fostered increased residential EV, solar, and heatpump adoption. As top decarbonization expert at JCAN 2015-2024, Fred spoke and trained hundreds of green teams on innovative, effective climate action. As President of MCAN, he is leading innovative programming and tools for community climate activists statewide, for example an innovative approach to minimize embodied carbon, and new tools to accelerate decarbonization measures in each city and town in time to achieve statewide 2030 goals.
